Military Veterans of Georgia, Inc. was formed to support our Veterans and our community
There is a growing problem of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in the veteran's community. Nationally, 22 veterans each day commit suicide - that is almost one every hour of every day. Our goal is "Not One More!" By creating this organization, our members are taking a hands on approach to this epidemic. In our area alone, we have had five suicides related to the local National Guard within a 2 year period. This can all be traced back to PTSD. Our successful PTSD Dog Program, Operation Atlas, is here to train dogs to be service dogs. Have a dog you have already bonded with that you want trained? Our experienced trainers will evaluate your dog, and if the dog is suitable, we are one of the few organizations that will train your dog with you. Visit www.operationatlas.com for more information.
We support programs in the community that help address PTSD -including classes that train our members, first responders and volunteers to deal with a veteran in crisis.
Military Veterans of Georgia is proud to be the originating organization for the Barrow County Veterans Resource Center - a one-stop shop for Veterans in our community. Offering on-site VA representatives, Georgia Department of Labor representatives, the Veterans Resource Center is supported by many other veterans service organizations. The Veterans Resource Center has a large food pantry, offering non-perishable and fresh food for Veterans in need. The garden boxes provide fresh produce in season and is part of our peer to peer activities
Remembering Georgia's Fallen Memorial.
The Remembering Georgia's Fallen Memorial is a traveling 70' wall that honors Georgia's fallen service members since 9/11/01. Featuring photos and remembrances for each service member who paid the ultimate price for our Freedom. The Memorial can be set up for events indoors or out. By bringing the Memorial to your event or place of business, you guarantee that these young men and women will not be forgotten - that people will continue to speak their names.
